Surrounded by historic sights and the extraordinary cultural landscape of the Wachau region, a host of exhibition venues offer a wide range of fantastic exhibitions and events year round: the Karikaturmuseum Krems, Austria's only museum for caricature, comics and cartoons; and the Kunsthalle Krems, one of the Austria's most renowned international exhibition venues.  Drawing thousands of visitors to Krems and the Wachau region every year, these attractions guarantee exciting and enjoyable art experiences! Ranked amongst the 49 TOP excursion destinations in Lower Austria, these venues showcase the very best in the fields of art and caricature year round!
The new State Gallery of Lower Austria combines the items in the Lower Austria collections with important private collections and reflects Lower Austria as an art landscape. The real life of people is the mainstay of the programme which incorporates all types of art and creates a dialogue between the old and the new. The impressive building features a ground-floor restaurant as well as a rooftop terrace which affords visitors breath-taking views of the Wachau and the Abbey of Göttweig. In 2020 the Wachau celebrates its twentieth anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To mark this occasion, an extensive exhibition at the State Gallery will illustrate what contribution artists have made to the establishment of today’s World Heritage Site. The exhibition extends over some 150 years including some of the great “icons” of Wachau painting.

Nestled between the historic old towns of Krems and Stein, you can enjoy these memorable exhibition experiences and cultural highlights whilst taking in spectacular views of the Danube and the Wachau region.
